My name is Laura, the face behind my small catering business, Blue Lias Catering. My kitchen is based in Somerset, a five minute drive from Glastonbury. I’m a retreat chef and have been for many years, cooking for the wild and wonderful humans that visit this incredibly unique part of the world. I look to nature to inspire me in my cooking, trying to follow the seasons offerings as best I can. However, I haven’t always been as passionate as I am now about cooking, there was a time I fell so out of love with the whole retreat cheffing world, disillusioned and frustrated I turned to my original passion, heritage. Sounds a bit of a snore fest? Well, not for me, I’m a bit of a nerd at heart, and started a masters in heritage and interpretation, exploring the connection we have with our material culture. Unfortunately, however, due to a tough year of loss and trauma, this all had to be put on the back burner, I paused my studies and got back in the kitchen, which bizarrely was my saviour! It filled me up, it got me through, it brought me closer to nature, it brought me closer to myself. So, after a year of baking, brewing and occasionally burning, I’m finding my flow, working out how I want to pursue this cooking experience and incorporate my studies in heritage. The hope is to eventually write a cookbook that weaves these two great passions together, but that’s for another day! For now, I’ll just keep on cooking up a storm every now and then for the good folk who need me!
